Local file disclosure via external entity expansion
Published Mar 21, 2023 · Updated Jan 17, 2025
XML external entity injection in VISAM VBASE before 11.7.5 allows remote attackers to read local files through a crafted project file. The VBASE-Editor parser expands external entity references in GestureConfigurations.XML, fetches the referenced URI, and embeds its contents into the document during processing. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted file, and disclosure is limited to data accessible to the Editor process.
