CVE-2022-46295Public exploit

Arbitrary code execution via unchecked translation vector count

Published Jul 21, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in Open Babel 3.1.1 and master commit 530dbfa3 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a malformed MSI file. The MSI ReadMolecule loop increments numTranslationVectors without checking the three-element translationVectors array, so a fourth vector overwrites stack memory. Exploitation requires processing the crafted file through obabel, the conversion API, or a language binding and can compromise the invoking process.
