CVE-2022-46292Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via excess MOPAC translation vectors

Published Jul 21, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in Open Babel 3.1.1 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code through a malformed MOPAC output file. The MOPAC output reader stores entries from the Unit Cell Translation block in a fixed three-element translationVectors array without first limiting the index. A user or service must process the crafted file through obabel, OBConversion, or a language binding, allowing memory corruption to compromise that process.
