CVE-2022-46175Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Object prototype manipulation via __proto__ property assignment

Published Dec 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Prototype pollution in JSON5 before 1.0.2 and 2.0.0 through 2.2.1 allows attackers to alter parsed objects via crafted JSON5 strings. The parse push routine assigns a proto key with ordinary bracket assignment, invoking the inherited setter instead of creating an own data property. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-controlled text and later trust inherited values; the resulting impact depends on those downstream operations.
