Authentication bypass via unscoped session identifiers
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper authentication in CodeIgniter 4 before 4.2.11 allows remote attackers holding one session cookie to access another session context. The DatabaseHandler, MemcachedHandler, and RedisHandler keyed sessions without including the configured cookie name, allowing equal session IDs from distinct cookies to resolve to the same stored record. Exploitation requires multiple session cookies, one of those three shared-storage handlers, and possession of one valid session cookie; access is limited to the other cookie's application context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
