CVE-2022-46149Network attack vector

Peer crash or memory disclosure via bounds-check bypass

Published Nov 30, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in affected Cap'n Proto C++ and Rust releases allows remote attackers to crash peers or expose process memory. Inconsistent pointer interpretation when a list of structs is downgraded to a list of pointers lets a crafted pointer escape bounds checks. The receiving application must accept an attacker-controlled pointer-list field, call its generated getter, and then copy that field alone or access it through AnyList; a successful read can terminate the process or return adjacent memory.
