Cluster takeover via unauthenticated credential retrieval
Published Nov 27, 2022 · Updated Apr 29, 2025
Missing authentication in KubeView through 0.1.31 allows remote attackers to take control of a Kubernetes cluster via its scrape API. The api/scrape/kube-system endpoint returns certificate and private-key files without checking authentication, and those credentials authenticate as kube-admin. Network access to an exposed KubeView instance is sufficient; the recovered administrator credentials permit cluster-wide control.
