Stored XSS via course-item input validation bypass
Published Dec 7, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Stored XSS in ILIAS before 7.16 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in other users' browsers via course items. Test question and introductory-message filters accept half-open HTML tags, the Long Menu question field applies no filtering, and course-item titles permit injected event handlers. Creating the payload requires course-item authoring rights, such as a tutor role, and execution occurs when another user opens the test or clicks the affected course-item control.
