CVE-2022-4575

Secure Boot bypass via writable UEFI variables

Published Oct 30, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper UEFI variable protection in Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS on affected models allows local users to bypass Secure Boot. The firmware leaves security-sensitive UEFI variables inadequately write-protected, permitting privileged modification of boot-trust state. Exploitation requires physical or local access plus elevated privileges; the resulting bypass removes Secure Boot validation of untrusted boot components.
