Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode style
Published Jan 16, 2023 · Updated Apr 4, 2025
Stored XSS in Castos Seriously Simple Podcasting before 2.19.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through a shortcode. The podcast_playlist shortcode writes its style attribute into player markup without validating or escaping attacker-controlled quotes and event handlers. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload in a post, and the script runs in the browser of any user who hovers over the rendered player, including administrators.
