Remote code execution via hostname buffer overflow
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
A buffer overflow in IP-COM M50 firmware 15.11.0.33(10768) allows remote attackers to execute code via the hostname parameter. The formSetNetCheckTools function copies the hostname value without sufficient bounds checking, allowing an oversized request to overwrite memory. The network-facing management interface accepts the request without authentication; successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
