Application crash via unbounded XML parsing recursion
Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Stack overflow in XML conversion in Hutool JSON before 5.8.25 and JSON-java before 20230227 allows remote attackers to crash applications. The recursive parser descends into each nested XML element without enforcing a depth limit, so deeply nested input exhausts the Java call stack. Exposure requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled XML to the conversion API; the libraries expose no network service themselves.
