CVE-2022-45639Public exploit

Disputed local command execution via shell substitution

Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025

Command injection in The Sleuth Kit fls 4.11.1 allows local users to execute commands through a crafted -m argument. The published proof of concept uses unquoted backticks, causing the calling shell—not tsk_fs_fls()—to execute the expression before fls receives the value. The record is disputed because no execution beyond the invoking user's existing privileges or other privilege-boundary impact has been established.
