Account takeover via brute-forced password reset codes
Published Mar 21, 2023 · Updated Feb 26, 2025
Weak password recovery in MEGAFEIS BOFEI DBD+ Application 1.4.4 allows remote attackers to take over accounts via reset requests. The password-reset service leaves verification codes valid beyond the application's stated 60-second window and accepts repeated incorrect guesses without rate limiting. Knowledge of a target account's email address or phone number and a forgeable API signing key are sufficient to brute-force a code, set an attacker-chosen password, and access the account.
