Private-browsing disclosure via misclassified Service Worker storage
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Information disclosure in Mozilla Firefox before 107 allows remote attackers to leave private-browsing site details on disk. ServiceWorkersEnabled used GetStorageAccess instead of IsInPrivateBrowsing, misclassifying some private contexts and permitting Service Worker storage directories to be written. Exploitation requires a private-window visit to Service Worker content; the artifacts do not run later but expose visited-site details to local disk inspection.
