Client crash via dangling JavaScript Realm references
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Use-after-free in Firefox before 107, Firefox ESR before 102.5, and Thunderbird before 102.5 allows remote attackers to crash the client. During incremental garbage collection, failed JavaScript-global creation leaves BaseShape objects pointing to a Realm that sweeping deletes, and heap compaction later traces the dangling pointer. Triggering the fault requires an out-of-memory condition during global creation; ordinary Thunderbird email reading disables scripting, limiting that exposure path.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
