Runtime tampering via writable installation directory
Published Nov 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 25, 2025
Incorrect permissions in Chocolatey Ruby 3.1.2.1 and earlier allow attackers to modify the installed runtime and its files. The package grants the Windows Authenticated Users group write access to C:\tools\ruby31 and every file beneath that installation directory. Group membership and filesystem access are sufficient to alter the runtime, but the public record identifies no privileged consumer that executes modified files.
