Script execution via unescaped language attribute
Published Dec 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Roots Soil 4.0.x allows attackers to execute script in visitors' browsers through a crafted site language value. The languageAttributes method reads get_bloginfo('language') and interpolates the result into the HTML lang attribute without attribute escaping. Exploitation requires control of the stored language value and a visitor to load a rendered page, exposing that visitor's browser context to attacker-supplied script.
