CVE-2022-45147

Code execution via unrestricted BinaryFormatter deserialization

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2025

Deserialization in Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7 and SIMATIC PCS neo allows local users to execute arbitrary code through user-controllable input. The applications deserialize user-controllable input with .NET BinaryFormatter without properly restricting it, allowing type confusion. Exploitation requires a local user to open an untrusted file, and successful execution runs arbitrary code within the affected application.
