Administrator takeover via unprotected REST form submissions
Published Nov 10, 2022 · Updated May 1, 2025
Cross-site request forgery in Plesk Obsidian allows remote attackers to change the administrator password through the REST API. The API accepts cross-origin HTML form POST requests to /api/v2/cli/admin/call without a CSRF token while the browser supplies cached HTTP Basic authorization. Exploitation requires a logged-in administrator's browser to submit the crafted form, after which the attacker can replace the administrator password and take control of the panel.
