Stored script execution via unfiltered chat messages
Published Dec 2, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in webtareas 2.4p5 Chat allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in another user's browser. The Chat feature stores a crafted Messages-field payload and later renders it without effective filtering or output neutralization. A low-privileged account can submit the payload, but exploitation requires another user to view the malicious chat message; the script then runs in that viewer's web context.
