SYSTEM code execution via trusted blank iframe
Published Mar 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Privilege escalation in KioWare 8.33 and earlier for Windows allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM through a crafted web page. GetScriptingAclActions grants high trust to about:blank contexts, letting script in a source-less iframe invoke the elevated KioUtils.Execute API. Exploitation requires KioWare to render attacker-controlled script directly or through XSS, after which an arbitrary Windows process runs as SYSTEM.
