Code execution via property-descriptor use-after-free
Published Nov 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 25, 2025
Use-after-free in Artifex MuJS 1.0.0 through 1.3.x before 1.3.2 allows attackers to execute code by loading crafted JavaScript. O_getOwnPropertyDescriptor() builds descriptor fields with prototype-aware property assignment, which invokes an Object.prototype setter that can delete the property being processed and leave ref pointing to freed heap memory. Execution requires the crafted file to be loaded by an affected interpreter; the published exploit turns the dangling setter pointer into memory primitives and code execution on a glibc-based Linux build.
