Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Hassan Derakhshandeh Widget Shortcode 0.3.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts. The shortcode renderer outputs the css_class attribute without validation or escaping, so a quoted value can introduce an event-handler attribute into page markup. Contributor access is sufficient to store the payload, and the script executes when another user views the affected page.
