Stored cross-site scripting via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in YARPP before 5.30.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through shortcode attributes. The yarpp shortcode handler outputs the template attribute, and before 5.30.2 the extra_css_class attribute, without validation or contextual escaping. Contributor-level access is required to embed the shortcode, and execution occurs when another user views the resulting page or post, exposing that viewer’s browser context.
