Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Stored XSS in Trustindex.io Widgets for Google Reviews before 9.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via shortcode attributes. The trustindex shortcode writes the data-widget-id attribute into page markup without validation or escaping, so a crafted quote injects an event handler. Contributor access is sufficient to store the payload, which executes when a higher-privileged user views the page.
