Code execution via DWG and DXF buffer overwrite
Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Out-of-bounds writes in Visio in affected Microsoft Office releases allow remote attackers to execute code through a crafted DWG or DXF file. The DWG and DXF parsers write crafted file data past the end of an allocated buffer, corrupting memory in the current Visio process. Exploitation requires no privileges but requires a user to visit a malicious page or open the file; successful exploitation runs code with that user's rights.
