Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Jan 16, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stored XSS in Simple Membership before 4.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via crafted shortcode attributes. The swpm_paypal_subscription_cancel_link css_class and swpm_payment_button class attributes are emitted into page markup without adequate validation or escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient, and the stored script executes in a higher-privileged user's browser when the injected page is viewed.
