CVE-2022-44652

Local SYSTEM code execution via installer error handling

Published Nov 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 28, 2025

Improper exception handling in the Trend Micro Apex One installer allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM on Windows. The installer fails to handle errors properly when accessing files, and that faulty path enables privileged code execution. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution on the target, after which attacker-supplied code runs in the SYSTEM context.
