Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode style
Published Jan 16, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stored XSS in Themify Portfolio Post before 1.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through crafted shortcode content. The themify_portfolio_posts shortcode places its style attribute into generated page markup without adequate validation or context-aware escaping, so a quote can terminate the attribute and add an event handler. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload, but a higher-privileged user must view the rendered page for the script to run in that user's browser.
