Remote code execution via unvalidated external URL
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Command injection in Rocket.Chat Desktop before 3.8.14 allows remote attackers to execute code through a malicious video-chat URL. The exposed openInternalVideoChatWindow API passes an attacker-controlled URL directly to Electron's shell.openExternal. Exploitation requires malicious workspace content to invoke the API while the internal video-chat window is disabled or the Mac App Store build is used.
