Unauthenticated router crash via unchecked password copy
Published Dec 2, 2022 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Stack overflow in Tenda i21 firmware 1.0.0.14(4656) allows remote attackers to crash the router via /goform/setSysPwd. When action=admin, the endpoint base64-encodes oldPwd and passes the result to encode_pwd, which copies it with strcpy without checking its size. The request requires network access to the router's HTTP service and can interrupt service; the public proof of concept demonstrates a crash, not code execution or data compromise.
