CVE-2022-44316Public exploit

Interpreter crash via string-literal buffer over-read

Published Nov 8, 2022 · Updated May 1, 2025

Heap buffer over-read in PicoC 3.2.2 allows local users to crash the interpreter by processing a crafted C source file. While LexScanGetToken tokenizes a string literal, LexGetStringConstant reads one byte immediately beyond the heap buffer allocated for the source file. Exploitation requires user interaction to make PicoC process the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, with no supported confidentiality or integrity impact.
