Conversion hang via crafted PNG profile
Published Feb 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 26, 2025
Denial of service in ImageMagick 7.1.0-49 allows context-dependent attackers to hang image conversion with a crafted PNG. The PNG decoder's profile-chunk handler passes a tEXt profile value of "-" to FileToBlob, which treats it as standard input and waits for data. A target must process the attacker-supplied file; the conversion worker remains blocked rather than terminating normally.
