CVE-2022-44033

Kernel memory corruption via PCMCIA removal race

Published Oct 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Use-after-free in Linux kernel 6.0.6 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt memory during PCMCIA removal. The cm4040_open and reader_detach paths can race, allowing detach to release device state while open still accesses it. Exploitation requires removal of the PCMCIA reader during an open call; the record establishes no specific crash, disclosure, or code-execution outcome.
