Persistent XSS via unescaped blockquote citation
Published Dec 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Persistent XSS in Redmine before 4.2.9 and 5.0.x before 5.0.4 allows remote attackers to execute script in a viewer's browser. The textile_bq method inserts an unescaped Textile blockquote citation into an HTML cite attribute, permitting attribute breakout. Exploitation requires crafted Textile in a stored field and a user to view the rendered content; the script can read or modify data available to that user's session.
