File disclosure via post-check URL decoding
Published Nov 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Path traversal in BACKCLICK Professional 5.9.63 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files through Tomcat. ImageDisplayServlet checks for traversal before URL decoding, allowing encoded parent-directory segments to bypass validation. The Apache reverse proxy normalized the encoding during testing, so exploitation requires direct network access to the back-end Tomcat listener; disclosed files can include database credentials.
