SYSTEM privilege escalation via leaked process handle
Published Jan 25, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025
Incorrect access control in the Riverbed Aternity agent before 12.1.4.27 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. The agent leaves a PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS handle to the SYSTEM A180AG.exe process exposed in low- and medium-integrity processes. Local users can duplicate the exposed handle and use it as a parent-process handle to launch a child process in the agent's SYSTEM context.
