Local file disclosure via externally imported JavaScript
Published Nov 25, 2022 · Updated Dec 3, 2025
Improper input validation in Spatie Browsershot 3.57.3 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary local files through untrusted HTML. Browsershot::html rejects literal file:// text but executes externally imported JavaScript in a local-file page, allowing that script to load file:// URLs. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled HTML that loads the script, after which local file contents can enter the rendered output.
