Subscriber-level post reordering via unchecked AJAX action
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Missing authorization in Intuitive Custom Post Order before 3.1.4 allows remote authenticated users to change WordPress post menu order. The update-menu-order AJAX action accepts request-supplied post IDs and rewrites their menu_order values without verifying the caller's capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, and the demonstrated consequence is limited to altering post ordering.
