CVE-2022-43601Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via wrapped IFF row loop

Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in OpenImageIO 2.4.4.2 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted ImageOutput object. In IFFOutput::close, a uint16_t row index wraps to zero when ymax is 0xFFFF, so an inclusive tile loop continues copying pixels past its heap allocation. Exploitation requires an attacker-controlled ImageOutput specification using 16-bit samples and compressed IFF tiles; successful memory corruption can execute code in the process handling the image.
