Indexing denial of service via malformed ingestion file

Denial of service in Splunk Enterprise allows remote attackers to block indexing via malformed S2S or HEC files in affected releases. The indexer fails to safely process a malformed file received through either ingestion protocol and stops accepting further data for indexing. Unauthenticated network reachability is sufficient by default; TLS-protected deployments require a compromised HEC token, shared secret, client certificate, or trusted certificate chain.
