Process crash via null scope-value dereference
Published Oct 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Segmentation fault in NGINX njs 0.7.2 through 0.7.4 allows attackers who execute crafted JavaScript to crash the njs process. In njs_scope_valid_value in src/njs_scope.h, function-copy bytecode processing dereferences a null value after a function reassigns itself and is called again. The proof of concept runs through the standalone njs shell, and the vendor disputes security impact because njs does not process untrusted input.
