Local crash via mismatched table element types
Published Oct 28, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025
Denial of service in WABT wasm2c 1.0.29 allows local users to crash the translator by processing a crafted WebAssembly module. CWriter::Write reaches a WABT_UNREACHABLE abort because validation admits a module that initializes an externref table with a funcref element segment. Execution requires a user or local workflow to pass the crafted module to wasm2c; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not code execution.
