CVE-2022-43281Public exploit

Interpreter crash via invalid return-call type lookup

Published Oct 28, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025

Heap-buffer overflow in WebAssembly wabt wasm-interp 1.0.29 allows local users to crash the interpreter by processing a crafted Wasm file. BinaryReaderInterp::GetReturnCallDropKeepCount calls std::vectorwabt::Type::size() through a wild object pointer while decoding return_call_indirect, causing an eight-byte out-of-bounds heap read. The published reproducer is passed to a locally invoked process with --enable-all and terminates under AddressSanitizer; consequences beyond the demonstrated abort are unreported.
