Decoder crash via out-of-bounds weighted prediction write
Published Nov 2, 2022 · Updated May 2, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in libde265 1.0.8 allows attackers to crash a decoding process by supplying a crafted HEVC video file. The put_weighted_pred_avg_16_fallback routine writes a two-byte value 48 bytes beyond an allocated image buffer during inter-prediction sample generation. Processing the malicious file is required, and the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort that interrupts decoding.
