Decoder crash via out-of-bounds luma read
Published Nov 2, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in libde265 1.0.8 allows attackers to crash a decoder by supplying a crafted H.265 video file. During inter-prediction, mc_luma in motion.cc reads one byte past a heap-allocated image buffer when decoding the malformed stream. Exploitation requires a user or automated system to open the file, and the documented consequence is decoder termination rather than data disclosure or modification.
