Decoder crash via inconsistent sequence parameters
Published Nov 2, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in struktur AG libde265 1.0.8 allows remote attackers to crash a decoder with a crafted HEVC video file. generate_inter_prediction_samples selects the sequence parameter set from the picture parameter set instead of the target image, causing mc_chroma to derive dimensions from inconsistent properties and read beyond the allocated heap buffer. A user or application must decode the malicious file; the demonstrated consequence is a process abort and service interruption, not data disclosure or modification.
