CVE-2022-43221Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service crash via unreleased PFCP peer nodes

Published Nov 1, 2022 · Updated May 2, 2025

Memory leak in Open5GS UPF 2.4.11 allows remote attackers to crash the service by sending crafted PFCP packets from multiple sockets. The pfcp_recv_cb function allocates a peer node for each new source socket but retains each node in pfcp_peer_list until UPF termination, exhausting the 64-entry pool. No authentication is required, but an attacker must reach the PFCP interface; the demonstrated consequence is a UPF crash.
