Process crash via malformed ISO metadata
Published Oct 19, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025
Out-of-bounds memory access in GPAC 2.1-DEV-rev368-gfd054169b-master allows local users to crash MP4Box via a crafted media file. The gf_isom_meta_restore_items_ref function processes malformed ISO media metadata and dereferences an invalid near-null address while restoring item references. Execution requires a user or local workflow to invoke MP4Box file-information processing on the crafted file, after which the process aborts without reported data disclosure or modification.
